The APPG on FinTech was delighted to host its first meeting with industry since re-establishing after May’s General Election.
Led by the Group’s new Chair, Luke Charters MP, the session was titled ‘Access to Capital and Markets’ and focused on trends in the current funding landscape, barriers to raising capital and what more the government can do to support the ecosystem in this regard.
Key takeaways from the session were:
- Women-led start-ups are hugely under-represented in funding and more must be done to meet the needs of women founders
- The UK remains a leader at supporting start-up companies, but a gap in funding for scale-ups is a growing concern
- Upcoming pension reforms have the potential to unlock further capital for FinTech in the UK
Thank you to Volution and TrueLayer for two great presentations to the Group on the challenges and opportunities they are seeing in the current funding environment.
A summary note of the meeting can be found here.
